Author's Note: This is the last poem in Gravity: New & Selected Poems, the second edition of which is forthcoming from Moon Tide Press in 2025. To say that I am feeling this more intensely now than I did when the poem was written would be quite the understatement.
Once, Time
Once, time trickled slowly like sap in winter, a Russian novel’s trudge through snow. Time enough to break the plate, retrieve the pieces, break the bone and set it once again in place. Now, I fear what cracks will not be mended. I walk carefully. Everywhere the path is slick and fast.
