Author's Note: When I was in high school, my wise English teacher asked me "Why don't you write a poem about something besides unrequited love?" Obviously, because I was an angsty, hormonal teenager. It took a long time to get to this poem.
slow
slow of heart, mind, hand and foot years pass and i am unaltered the heart i gave you then is slow to turn to others my mind, having chosen you is slow to change my hands having held you are slow to reach away my feet having walked the path to you are slow to wander and love once slow to bud will be ever slow to lose its bloom
