Author's Note: Driving last month, watching the moon move across the water, I think the rhythm of the road wrote the poem.
The moon lies still on the face of the water The old moon, the Harvest Moon Says to the water, says follow me, follow me The Harvest Moon, the old moon The snow goose flies over the body of water The still water, the blue water Says I will follow, I will follow The old moon, the Lovers’ Moon Shadows there are that live in the water Beneath the moon, the old moon Shadow of dolphin, sunfish, and star Shadow of sturgeon, mudfish, and gar The water reflects the face of the moon The crescent moon, the new moon Cradles the moon, wet and tender The silver moon, the new moon The silver moon, the new moon
