Bio Note: November is a month for giving thanks, but every day is an opportunity to thank our friends and loved ones. Here is a poem from my forthcoming book, Enormous Blue Umbrella.

Thank You Note

Dearest,

Thank you for staying up all night, 
setting an alarm for every three hours
making sure I get the meds on time
to stay ahead of pain.

You straighten the sheets.
You coax me to eat.
You bring croissants,
and the only yogurt
I can stomach.

You let me cry without comment,
though I know it pains you
to see me suffer.
You stand by while I shower,
adjust temperature and force
to not unthread the hidden sutures.

Note, Dearest, I will do this for you.
You, who appeared from the blue
and gave me the future.
