Author's Note: These are two more poems from my October 2022 visit to Wishin' Jupiter Ranch in north-central Nebraska. My thanks to the Kelms for the opportunity to commune with the river and the sky and the grasses where the sky is so close you can touch the stars.

The River Bends

The river bends here where silence
is wisdom and what the magpie knows.

The More You Poke

The more you poke
at wisdom
the less it teaches.
Stand and wait
and wait some more.
