Bio Note: I live in Wisconsin’s Kettle Moraine where today I am staring out at two feet of snow. Yesterday, I snowshoed…today it feels good to work on words. Once Upon a Tar Creek Mining for Voices (Turning Plow Press) came out in 2021, Broken Blossoms (Fernwood Press) will be coming out in 2024.
On a Winter’s Day
and for just that out of time
moment I flew
ice being sky
just upside down
and my skates became wings
even the pike swimming
below me in this mirror
of water and trees
knew God that day
and I just kept circling
knowing to stop
would end this dream
of everlasting come to Jesus
Glory Hallelujah
Salvation
sitting in the ICU waiting room
my friend tells me
how every night
she rolled over and placed
her ear on the chest
of the man now tethered
to machines
behind the window
no sweet lub dub now
only the beat of a clock
losing time
