Bio Note: I was born in England and moved to the United States in the early 1990s. I enjoy my job as a therapist and in my spare time I like to run. I live in an old house in Milwaukee and have a sweet cat called Marsha. I have published several poetry chapbooks.
Seven Sins and Seven Virtues
For many women, it is a punch in the stomach Not once, but twice and we rest for a while, recovering and we think of the deadly sins How do we fight against the seven horsemen Of the Apocalypse? Puffed up pride, we kill you with our modesty The courage to say I made a mistake When I voted for an orange monster Gulping down greed, we spit you out with serving others who welcome our company Boxing gloves Wrath is an easy fix We sit in the shade and observe the chaos with Patience as our guest I’m jealous of your magnificent body that men lust for with eyes on stalks I fix myself and offer you my hand The charitable hand of kindness When we are all pigged out with masses of excess, we do nothing Sloth-like snails We flush out the system with tolerant temperance We continue to do good in the name of all that is right.
