Bio Note: I am a poet most recently from Volcano, Hawaii. A retired county worker and two time breast cancer survivor, I have lived on both coasts as well as the Midwest as an artist’s model, modern dancer, massage therapist and honorably discharged Air Force veteran. A 2024 Pushcart Prize nominee, my poems have appeared here and in ONE ART, Quartet, SWIMM, Thimble, Mackinaw Journal and MockingHeart Review, among others. I was selected as a finalist by Lefty Blondie Press for my chapbook manuscript, Tipping the Maids in Chocolate: Observations of Japan.
Waiting
It's cold here now. The rain forest in December makes for damp sheets and a chill I cannot shake. The Christmas lights I strung to cheer me, didn't do the trick. Nor does this warm lump of cat in my lap, or a cupboard full of snacks that call to me, teasingly, from the kitchen. So I take shelter, curled like a meadow mouse in a nest of quilts, resolutely dreaming of spring and sun and green and birdsong, while the world catches up.
