Author's Note: "Thank You", my latest poem, was written to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary in the best way possible. By thanking my wife, Barbara Jean, for all the love, support, patience, and encouragement she has given me through four decades of marriage - and counting.


Thank You

For Barbara Jean

“You must be strong for your husband,”
your father said. Only months beyond
celebration of our very first year,
my mother found my father
dead from self-infliction. Babes,

through that sorrow,
our ensuing
sorrows, my petty
anger, your painful
tears, you’ve been

strong for your husband, a rock
for your husband, a blessed
comfort and joy - with love,
always with love,
for your husband

for 40 years.
