Bio Note: The second woman to graduate in Civil Engineering from the University of Florida, I enjoyed a long engineering career, and in time, blended that with a career as a Doctor of Oriental Medicine. My poetry is published in numerous journals. The Lemon Light of Morning, my first book of poetry, was published by Bambaz Press in 2022 and my second poetry book, We Feed Dragons to the Moon, by the same publisher in March 2024.
Tucking in the Weary Day
The creek smells of swamp water and burning leaves. Sunlight glistens through misty clouds and cypress trees. A cormorant has plucked a minnow from the water’s edge and is gobbling it down his long black neck. A pair of blackbirds call to each other and a rooster crows in the still afternoon, as though he can call up a new day at will. I yawn, filled with satisfaction in my day’s work as a pink light spreads gently over the horizon.
