Bio Note: Three years ago, I retired from hospice social work, at which time I began writing poetry. It has become a great passion. My poems are influenced by my patients’ journeys, the beauty of nature, and the human condition. Being a part of the poetry community has brought me great joy and new friendships.
Betrayal
What could be sadder than goodbye When bitter tears tear at the tongue While languid lovers longing lie, Train whistle wails through blackened sky And hearts leak festered fears they’ve sprung What could be sadder than goodbye, As time forsakes them years rush by They find themselves no longer young Still, languid lovers longing lie, And take no pause to question why Their final aria has been sung— Could this be sadder than goodbye? As mourning dove coo-calls its cry Upon their sill its claws have clung To watch the lovers longing lie… Once more the lonely lovers sigh On final breath, feigned passion hung There is nothing sadder than goodbye, When languid lovers longing, lie
