Bio Note: I am a former Professor of French and, in retirement, use my time for writing, occasionally publishing poems in periodicals known and unknown. My recent poetic memoir is The Poem Has Reasons: a story of Far Love (Cos Madres press, 2022). I have also taken up painting and am always looking for others who practice the visual or verbal arts. I now live in a retirement community in South Hadley, Massachusetts.
Yucca on White Sands
My mother, the dune, gave me these bells and said: “Rattle them. Summon the rain, your inconstant father.” She made a spiny skirt and said: “Wear this. You live by yourself.” She said: “Here comes the wind. I’ll be shifting. Remember your thousands of toes. Curl them in clumps of cold, dark sand and hold on.”
