Bio Note: My poetry often addresses the theme “finding peace”, usually finding solace in some form of nature. Walking near woods, being at the ocean, sharing writing (and, the moon) with others. Forthcoming work includes a third chapbook, and debut full collection, as well as inclusion in the James Crews edited anthology The Wonder of Small Things, Poems of Peace and Renewal. Staying in community with poets is a top priority.
Rob & Max Share the Sky
Rob rises well before dawn, waking up to sit down on a meditation cushion for his session of calm. He has sent me a picture of the moon, glowing fuzzy white in dark sky. I receive this image happily. He’s thought of me. He’s shared a capturing of something beautiful, mystical. During breakfast, I thank him for sending the moon. Oh, I sent that to you? I thought I was sending it to Max (our son in NYC, who often sends pictures of the sunrise he sees from a Ridgewood rooftop). It’s alright, I decide, I’ll not be forlorn. Rob’s offering was meant for Max, not for me, but I’m buoyed by that happiness too— knowing they can share the sky, and that they do.
Tree, Be My Arms
Today, I let branches speak for my heart and I let them calm my mind as I depend on the gentleness of apple blossoms just blooming on our tree. Light pink, barely a shade above white, and the lime green of newness draping each arm in ceremony. Celebration of what is, what might come to be, and what will surely pass. Tree, let me stand in your trunk. Solid bark protecting a core. Let me flow with the sap; a sweetness that nourishes. I’ll anchor in your roots even as emotions soar.
