Bio Note: I am a poet residing in northern New Jersey. My work is influenced by Philip Larking and similar poets. I lean on accessible language and rhyming form to explore themes of impermanence, reflection, loss, internal conflict, and change.
Why I Wear Sunglasses
These dark and tinted spectacles we wear Serve one of an array of purposes, Depending on who you ask. Hide your stare, That prying force imagining what is Becoming what you wish it could become. Block the sun, of course; lest we lose prized sight That absorbs the warm, gold hues of autumn, And eases you awake with morning’s light. Add to season’s latest fashion trend; Those insect-looking types with bulky frames Seem to be in vogue (but force you to spend!). “These round out your look,” every salesman claims. Stop my darkness short of leaking out Through the porous membrane of my eyes; This, my favorite function, without a doubt, Is a use well-known among the wise.
