Bio Note: I am a retired psychiatrist in my late 80’s living in Brookline, MA. I am passionate about poetry, music and running. My poetry book, “Driftwood” was recently published by Kelsay Press. In addition, my poems have been published in Scissortail Quarterly and Sweetycat Press, as well as online sites.

A Cool Boston Run

Sun is out,
air is crisp,
ice on the pond,
New England picture
postcard as tourists
walk the commons
and some seek
the way to Fenway
wearing their favorite
baseball club hats.

I choose to run
on a moderately cold
Boston winter day.
When younger I
hungered for the
hills where I
skied on fresh snow or
skated on sparkling ice.
Now, a run suits me,
the essence of wintry cool.

The Polar Vortex

The polar vortex
A winter visitor
Blankets us with
Snow and ice
Grew up in the cold
Left for warmer climes
But the vortex
Kept returning
Each winter
I kept returning
To colder climes
No escape
Weather is
A state of mind
