Bio Note: I am a wandering troubadour whose poetry appears in over 400 journals on six continents, and 23 collections of poetry – including In the Jaguar Valley (dancing girl press, 2023) and Caribbean Interludes (Origami Poems Project, 2022). I also author travel narratives, articles and guidebooks. My writing has been honored by the Parliamentary Poet Laureate of Canada (2011) and nominated for the Best of the Net. I journey through Latin America with my faithful knapsack Rocinante, listening to the voices of the pueblos and Earth.
Through the Door
My dreams lumber through the door between consciousnesses slipping through before it slams shut with full wakefulness
Within the Sounds of Insomnia
Sometime … somewhere … in the hazes of my sleep … The cat rolls a ball across the wooden floor … Whispered worries drift suffocating dreams … Sometime after three a.m. singing and loud voices climb the hill Dreams crushed sleep elusive I get up, let the cat out muddle through cyberspace Cat’s pawfall on the chilled tin roof After an hour or so I resume my quest for rest … The hesitant toll of a church’s matins A car revs its engine toots its horn Some house’s alarm screams in this night A heavy vehicle climbs the hill I abandon my quest for this night’s sleep … The first bus passes its brakes groan The eastern horizon washes in brightening colors Another night has passed within the sounds of insomnia …
