Bio Note: I am an egalitarian who believes that precious things must be closely guarded and that excessive wealth creates its own weird and largely meritless sense of entitlement.
The Oligarchs Are Coming
Wake up! Rouse yourselves! Arise! Enemies within and without have stirred up the hoi polloi, promising them wealth and power and a return to illusionary greatness. They rampage through our streets, opening our city gates to our enemies. Too late to go to the walls. Run to the Curia, surround the Senate, make your stand there. Say: Citizens, Those who cause this trouble do not love our great city. You are less than gnats to them. They have no allegiance to country. The lust that unites them is their desire to own and control everything. The banner they raise is green. They worship an altar of gold. Their desire is to strip you of all your precious inheritance. Can you not hear? Not that brittle cacophony! That is the impotent rage of their puppets rampaging through our streets. Not that white noise babble! That is the repetitious lying of the town criers, mercenary, spineless lackeys supinely bowing to their masters. Not those well-oiled lies! That is the practiced deceit of the bought-and-paid-for politicians, grifters with coiffed hair and tailored clothes. Listen! Beneath is the silent salivation of their lust for wealth and power. Gird yourselves. Be strong. Arm yourselves with all the laws of this city and the polity of your ancient ones. Stand firm in their hope! The oligarchs are coming and their insatiable lust is for everything!
