An Elucidation on Death and Dying

Not dead yet, as the happy phrase goes,
though we are wondering about this, yes,
as who hasn’t been wondering about this,
yes, so really, perhaps we shouldn’t be
so worked up, stressed out about this
as sooner or later, and let’s hope it is,
as sooner or later, conscious with a big
scream or just fading away as so many
do these days either in hospice or the
other option is that everyone stopped
coming around to check up on you-know-
who, so then it’s possible, isn’t it, that
we will request another year as there’s
so much to still get done, right, as there’s
always so much to get done, and who
would take care of this, the basement,
the attic, and before you know it, a
highly paid team will be carrying just
about everything out to the curb with
or without our permission, and it’s
really okay, isn’t it, as now we can’t
use all the still unused appliances,
dishes, blankets, forgotten letters
which needed replies, and all those
photographs perhaps someone
might send them all to the local
library, or on a terribly misguided
hunch, the local historical society,
but no, let’s get something straightened
out, shall we, it’s just not going
to matter anymore, is it, so can
you all say this with me in unison,
it’s just not going to matter anymore
is it, but of course, there are a few
who will whimper or worse, sob
their way out of this, but really
soon we’ll be gone, and then,
that’s just it, we won’t have to
worry about getting more time
to finish up everything that needs
to be finished up, and that’s
all right, isn’t it, isn’t it, at
least for now if anyone of us
really knows what now is when
soon now will not be now, ever.
