Just Keep Running

It’s been a long time coming
Whatever may be the climax of this strife
Surprises keep on piling up
But I’ve kept moving all my life
Always I’m becoming
Ever working toward the ending of this life

I don’t know where I’m going
Don’t know why or when or how
Going as fast as I can knowing
Nothing’s ever coming —
It’s always and only just as it is right now

Just keep running
She told me ever
As time will never stop
No end is yet within my sight
Just keep on running
And try to outrun the everlasting night

Just keep running
Don’t stop or you’ll be left right there
Just keep running
Not a moment — not any moments — left to spare

Dad’s gone
Mom’s gone
Brother’s gone
They’re all gone now
The last day is coming
I can hear the whisper as the final morning moans

So you may as well just stop running
Time to do the right
Stop your frantic running
Turn around and draw the light
Just stop running
Stop and hope to put it all to right

Mistakes there are — always something wrong
So stop your running
Take time to mend the errors of a life
Stop now your running
You’ll not outrun the everlasting night

It’s been a long time coming
Whatever may be the climax of this strife
Surprises keep on piling up
But I’ve kept moving all my life
Always I’m becoming
Ever working toward the ending of this life

I don’t know where I’m going
Don’t know why or when or how
Going as fast as I can knowing
Nothing’s ever coming —
It’s always and only just as it is right now
