Bio Note: I recently began writing poetry at nearly age 65, after concluding a long career as an attorney. But my interest in poetry arose more than fifty years earlier, from reading the work of Langston Hughes and studying the lyrics of Simon & Garfunkel songs in junior high school. My poems have appeared in The Lyric Magazine, Lighten Up Online, and Grand Little Things, in addition to Verse-Virtual and other print and online journals.
Conversation
“Are you sure that shirt is nice enough for the wedding?” “They told me it’s casual.” “You said you were going to wear something button down.” “It’s outside, it’ll be hot, and I’d need an undershirt.” “You also said your friend Herb is going to come dressed up.” “He’s a clothes horse. I’m not.” “Well, that shirt is nice, but it’s really more like a polo.” “OK, I’ll go look at my button downs, and pick one out.” “Wear whatever you want. I don’t care.”
Joyousness
For him to write a poem That’s deeply joyous, It helps to hear sweet sounds Like chirping birds. And focusing his mind On nature’s beauty means, The anger everywhere Cannot be heard.
