Heart to Heart, Bone to Bone
you present your guilt a struggling, butterfly-shaped heart pinned to a board and say, let's examine it you are puzzled you don't recognize the shadow of that hurtful stranger who sometimes walked in your shoes wore your clothes put on your hat in the morning as for my own child he saw the lost and wounded shadow who, from time to time, slipped into my skin as easily as a stocking let us agree we have much to learn about the extravagance of human aspirations how we need how we cling how we forsake let us make our examination remembering every parent is a student with something to confess let us forgive for I am still woven, heart to heart with my child still knit together, bone to bone with you
