Bio Note: My first collection of poems Allegro to Life was published in January 2022 by Taj Mahal publishing and is available through Amazon. A second book A Finger of Land on an Old Man’s Hand will come out later this year. My focus is on Sonoran deserts, people, politics, Latin America. I am a photographer, environmentalist and a retired pollster, metal sculptor and sheep farmer. Editor of Rocky Mountain Poll 1973 to 2017. Ever optimistic, but skeptical, I split my time between Arizona and Guatemala.

Certainties

The aged have road tested ideas
	they cling to as truths – 
	trusted, familiar guideposts.

The young embrace many certainties -
	some born in the morn
	then set aside by sunset.

In years ahead both young and old 
	will rate their certainties as wisdom.

What is reality today is my slow climb
	in these hills each morning 
	for fresh air as I continue sorting
	my conflicting certainties.
