The sound of
butterflies crying
 
awakens him,
arouses him from
 
an unsatisfying sleep.
His assignment 
 
was to stay awake,
listen and watch
 
for the presence 
of dervishes dancing,
 
small children
eating peanuts & crayons,
 
soliciting the number
of domestics
 
working in small villages
along the rim of the lake.
 
Considering the absence
of butterflies,
 
he asks where the
fatherless dragons                                                                          
 
come from,
why they stroll silently
 
the streets of small cities,
clutching the grommets
 
holding their garments
in place.
