March 2022
EDITOR'S NOTE
Dear Community,
Food as a life-sustaining necessity. Food as metaphor. Food as nostalgia. Food for the body, mind, spirit. Cultures swirl around the preparation and sharing of food, from simple to elaborate, from frugal to extravagant. Some of life's best and worst memories can be evoked by certain foods. We make new friends over a shared meal, demonstrate our compassion by sharing with others, especially those who are hungry for whatever food we have to offer - physical, mental, spiritual, social.
Poetry feeds us each in different ways, and this month's suggested theme of "FOOD" brought out a flood of thoughts. I am grateful to all of you who offer sustenance to the community through your words, your kindness to each other, your willingness to step away from the competitive aspects of the art world and just "break bread" together.
You may notice that this month's issue of Verse-Virtual features work from 71 poets, which is reaching the point of being unmanageable (again.) As a result, I have less and less time to remind submitters that they have forgotten to follow one or more requirements spelled out in the guidelines. The easiest way for me to cut down the hours needed to publish each issue is to reject without comment any submission that doesn't fully comply. Those who have ears to hear will understand the implication.
Submissions for April's issue open on March 1 and close on March 10. There is no theme for the April issue.
