(Juniperus horizontalis ‘Wiltonii’) Ease settles as slender shoots rise. The scent of juniper cascades where rabbits nestle near tender roots. As the backyard attraction mice voles and chipmunks hide where red squirrels abide whenever ashen wings begin their descent. They call me an ornament among plants. Yet my existence is one of service especially for the canine who lives just steps away from my carpet of creeping cedar. We’re the picture of repose his flaxen waves my blue-green shades of low-growing color. Cradled in contentment his name’s Yogi mine’s Wiltonii and of course there’s Wilson the tennis ball in tow.

When breeze circles olive stirs stems of rye streams along grasses meets meadow’s shine when sunlight tops timothy brightens green’s hues and hawkweed bursts orange where cloud forms are few I see my son standing his dog bounding near Earth angels together in June’s lush frontier My heart takes a walk amid meadow’s shine where hawkweed bursts orange and life’s gifts align where breeze circles olive stirs stems of rye where sunlight tops timothy and love never dies
