July 2022
EDITOR'S NOTE
Dear Community,
What does it mean to be free? I'm not a philosopher or an essayist, so I don't try to tackle such questions. However I do appreciate the poems that were sent in this month that touched on the concept. They are varied and thought-provoking and reflect individual experiences with being free - or not, in some cases. I am grateful to have them to add to this month's issue of Verse-Virtual. Equally pleased with the poems that do not address the optional theme. Month after month, I have an excellent array of poems to select from, often accompanied by a personal note to me about the impetus for a poem, or to update me on things in your lives that matter outside of poetry.
I've watched carefully the three V-V Facebook pages, and have noted over the past couple of years that neither the Shmooze page nor the Talk page gets much action. I have decided to suspend both of those pages, starting this month. By suspending them, new posts are blocked, but the old posts are retained and are accessible if you get a sudden urge to explore them. The main Facebook page will continue, with the current rule - posting poetry, whether your own or someone else's, is not allowed, but links to publications and recognitions are highly encouraged. Posts on topics of interest about poetry are also welcome as are comments, updates, and news about your "goings on." Essentially, the Shmooze and Talk page functions will now be part of the main page.
Submissions for the August issue will open July 1 and close July 10. Anything outside that time frame will not be considered. The updated guidelines are being followed by most of you, and I appreciate it. If you haven't submitted in a while, please review the changes before sending your work.
