Bio Note: I write from the shores of Lake Winnebago. Art and nature are my frequent subjects. A collection of my poems has been published recently and a letterpress chapbook will be published in December by Red Hydra Press.

In the World of Today

It’s not enough that aspens' pure gold
quakes against this October sky,
sprinkles the water with its glitter.

It’s not enough that the line of clouds
takes on new patterns each millisecond
along the corridor of dawn’s blue backdrop.

It’s not enough that this masterpiece has
survived, been recast in new shapes
from Matisse to Thoreau, to Aldo Leopold

and on down through my framed glass.
It’s not enough that the Bald Eagle, to the left,
and the White Pelican seen just yesterday

have returned to this gallery, each one
an original, yet unfinished. No, it’s not enough,
and still, in this private viewing it is.
