Bio Note: I have been a poet and an artist most of my life and consider both forms of expression to be my best friends. I am always searching for moments in life that deserve to held still and then described with words, shape and color. I am most gratified when a reader feels I have understood their inner experience. My work has been published recently on Sancturary-Magazine.com, BigCityLit.com, and poetrybay.com.
Candy Hearts
even now I recall before you fell into that river making its way to the sea how, when this faithful daughter dropped the morphine upon your tongue you opened your mouth like a baby bird perceiving only flickering lights and darting shadows even then I believed you would rise and walk again as if miracles are handed out as easily as candy hearts, to the good fathers who, according to the laws of my bewildered mind must remain glued to the spine of life as if all your days were like the endless pages in an immortal book decorated with tarot-like paintings of all the indelible people you had been the son, the brother, the father, the mentor, the joker, the imperfect prince, the teacher, the musician, the artist, the lover, the husband, the friend but never the ghost, left emptyhanded passed over for a needed miracle even then I believed, you were the swimmer too strong to be drowned in an ocean of stars
