Bio Note: I took Donna Hilbert's first workshop many years ago with the idea it would enhance my prose.
Once I joined, I was hooked and never left. Since my style is narrative, I enjoy writing both poetry and prose. After
this crazy year, I'm looking forward to eventually attending poetry readings in person.
Whirl
Grandma said she was kicked out of dance halls when she was a young girl with another girlfriend. for spinning. I imagine two girls entwined as they spin like tops around the waxed wood floor. Giggling they circle around and around the hall without a care whether they look rowdy, or might knock into other dancers. Too young to think about consequences they are dizzy with delight, their hair wispy and damp, feet flying over the floor, their skirts lifting with the twirling. When they’re chased out of the dance hall, they laugh and float into the night, their voices echoing down the dark empty street. They spin around the lamplight, whirling all the way home.
