Bio Note: I am a longtime editor, slowly publishing poet, and author of six picture books,
including From Apple Trees to Cider, Please! and The Boy Who Said Nonsense (Albert Whitman
& Company). In 2018 I moved away from the masthead of an academic quarterly to work with people who want
to share their stories, ideas, and poems in print. It’s been a joy—and quite an adventure. My short fiction
has been nominated for a 2021 Pushcart Prize and Best MicroFiction Award.
Morning Glory
I wake to working through a line of iambs. The words dissolve but leave their throb, their pulse, the vital cadenced thrum that speaks in us as the window whispers Lenten gray, which is to say, fine clouds like lambs—though shrouded promising resolve: harmonious.
Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major
The cello has a soul that sings a song I can’t suppress. Tender, deep, I feel it in my feet. The cello has a voice of humanness. Whenever I am at a loss, as I often am, I find I hear the cello in my ear leading me home, a contrapuntal lamb.
