Bio Note: I am a novelist, playwright and screenwriter. My three books are two
thrillers and a memoir written in first person by a pair of dogs. I have also written several
features and a few TV pilots, a few of which have been optioned. This is the first poem I have
written inspired by the state of the world at the moment.
And God watched
The children waking up healthy with smiles and stretched out arms became all that mattered. Elderly parents' health and their wrinkled smiles felt right and cherished by their children afraid for their vulnerability. Together we marveled and listened to grateful applause as it echoed off alleyways in Naples and skyscrapers in New York And all around the globe fish swirled in cleaner, bluer waters. Elephants' tusks suddenly became less important to the greedy trophy hunters Clouds burst and breathed more easily with hues of ozone health. And God watched. Birds tweeted among themselves how more humans were walking, sitting, painting and reading and they hid among the branches. Parents were present, walking, biking, holding little hands. Friends posted the same rainbow over different oceans. Dogs and cats snuggled in homes with needy humans' warm hugs. Sewing machines woke up, noisy to help. Caretakers and workers grew stoic angel wings. Students sang and played instruments of hope together and alone. Neighbors saved us with peaceful nods and optimistic souls. Many hearts broke. Then purses began to open. And God winked.
