Pandemic Poems - APRIL 2020
Bio Note: I am a poet and fiber artist in San Bernardino, CA. I am exploring performance poetry
in collaboration wearing my own costumes based on my books. Nature, myths, and stories (mine or others) are
a main source of inspiration. My poetry appeared or is forthcoming in: Anti-Heroin Chic, Unpsychology
Magazine, and MORIA.
Jellyfish
You glide and ungulate in community. You create patterns in sunlight like flipped coins. Don’t hurt one another. Transparent— nothing to hide. Once I feared your sting. Now your movement brings calm. I am alone with the pain of trauma, again.
Look Up
In renewal of spirit, geese ancestors join generations and energy flows in harmony. Their honking precedes seeing their flight. They bring warning and hope for the new as the virus spreads. Two geese in tandem. Uncommon sight signals daffodils’ return. Gardeners still cut the grass and blow it away. Several times I hear in the store: There’s no rice.
Seeding a Different Future
Hummingbird drinks nearby red and white salvia not disturbed by my presence while he pulls weeds. The apricot tree sprouts leaves in one day. I pay homage to the fig. Leaves already large enough to droop. Sun shines through to create shadows like pictographs. An unknown tree establishes and thin bracts stretch on the hillside. Result of a seed dropped by a bird? It’s my beloved’s birthday. One he will never forget. Only I can touch him.
