Author's Note: Recently, my son and I went fly fishing on the icy waters of the East Verde River in northern
Arizona; the only place in the world where there are Gila trout, and until 2006, were on the endangered species' list.

Cloud Reading
What does desire want beyond other desires? Perhaps this is a question for desire itself. Those daily formations thought to be sylphs, essences, or argosies, tell us all that is or will be in their reformations. Are we not born with a sense about the world that does not leave us— is this not the text of the unknown? I have waited all my life for such lines as these—or those clouds make, but they only turn and billow as they have done today, or as they will tomorrow.
