Bio Note: I own Avol's Books, LLC which sells used, rare, and out-of-print books on the internet. I've been writing poems on and off for about 30 years. In November 2018 my first chapbook, "A Little Rain, A Little More," was published by Bent Paddle Press. I've had poems published in a number of online and print journals, including Shampoo, After Hours, and The American Journal of Poetry.

Religion is Under Attack

With his head bowed
the old priest crosses
the church parking lot
while all around him
squirrels drop shells

Farce

Five crows with the sheen of wet asphalt
pace the vacant church parking lot, like
the first mourners to arrive for a funeral
only to discover the sanctuary doors are
locked; now what? Leave it to the clown
prince of the acorn kingdom, who leaps
from one branch only to miss the next
and falls to the street with a loud plop
