Bio Note: I am a northern New Englander whose work often focuses on environment,
survival, how we treat each other. I also have thoughts about writing, and being a poet; some
about me, some inspired by those I’ve heard/read. I am especially grateful for the poetry
community under this pandemic cloud we find ourselves in. Cheers.
A Poet I Know
for Dean Rhetoric
A poet I know on Twitter said he’s “Poet Laureate of Tesco meal deals”. Well, I’ve never heard of those, but I get what he means. I replied, “Poet Laureate of bird feeder watchers”. Because, I am. Self appointed. I get that we both have known loneliness. Not the missing people you like to hang out with kind, but the spend most of your time alone, with yourself, for years kind. Not sure about him, but mine was imposed by major illness and stigma which came with it. People were afraid. Death was all but certain. That was a long time ago. Now, it’s managed. I’m good at watching birds. I’m getting somewhat good at writing about it. I’m glad that, whatever Dean’s story is, he’s writing about it too.
If He Were a Poet
She whistles to birds is what my husband would write if he were a poet, composing a poem about his wife. She sings to the radio, loudly; snaps her fingers with the beat. She’s a bit of a clutterer, although also very neat.. a sort of conundrum, truth be told. We make all sorts of adjustments staying together, as we grow old.
