Bio Note: I think life is too short for weak coffee, cheap wine, and bad books. During COVID I teach
remotely and grade student poems from home. I escape daily to jog in beautiful Colorado. My collection of poems
Beyond All Bearing was published by Wipf and Stock in 2018, and a textbook Learning the Secrets of English Verse
(with David J. Rothman) is forthcoming from Springer.
In a New Light
Without fanfare, the best things come around. Softly, like the waking of the grass or the hummingbirds’ flutter at the feeder. Unheralded, like the package on your porch, or hard earned like the yoga pose you held for the first time yesterday. Rarely, like a hand-penned letter in your box, or slowly, the satisfaction of a job well-done. Without a splash, like good news simply put: “Oh, and by the way….” There is no brass band the day you wake to your familiar rooms and see the sun has burned away the haze of lonesome. Your walls are warm, awash in light. Love has come.
