NOTE: I have been a teacher for almost thirty years--both in Minnesota and Wisconsin, and never have we had three weather-related days off in one week, and one the following week. The swings have been unnatural, too. Just two days after school was closed due to the polar vortex, the temperature soared to 40 degrees. sylviacavanaugh.com
Polar Vortex
"Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold”
-The Second Coming, William Butler Yeats
We depended on currents and invisible things,
like political will. Mosquitos swarmed in fall
last year and December rained, but apart
from noting oddities, we held our habits to the
grindstone—believing arctic air would center
itself over the North Pole. This ship cannot
remain afloat with so much cargo in the hold.
