March 2018
I’ve been married 41 years to the man I sat behind in a sophomore English class in high school, though we didn’t marry until we were thirty. I worked in libraries, told children stories and wrote in the closet until five years ago. Now I’m retired, I enjoy spending time with my grand daughter, growing wildflowers, cooking and writing about whatever the season grows.
Seeing
Dance in moccasins at the solstice pow wow,
reel out grief and joy inside a pulsing circle
dusted by mother earth
Work shoeless in the garden,
hoe weeds away from the cantaloupe
dig your toes deep in loose cool loam
Tell your children the classic folktales you love,
the same ones have traveled the earth
dressed in difference cultures and traditions
Before you act as judge and jury on others,
walk in the woods with them for a while,
remember the one earth we share
