A couple of years ago, I began re-reading the poetry books I have collected. I noticed that the ones I liked had nature images. I decided then that I would write more about nature. I also decided to wake up with praise. Our president may not understand science, but destroying the environment just so some energy companies can get richer is stupid and short-sighted. He has no praise in his heart, just dollar signs where his heart should be.
The Sun and Moon
We assume the sun and moon ascend separately
until we see them almost side by side
like old lovers on a porch swing.
This belief is contestable.
The disappearance of people I have known
is like the ascending sun and moon. I wonder
if they are still out there, and what, if anything,
they are doing, and are they alright.
We assume the sun vanishes in the sky
when it goes where the earth curves out of sight,
and the moon rises following behind
like the figures in an grandfather clock,
but really, we know that they are both in the sky
and the earth rotates like a school globe
every child wants to spin.
It is when we see the moon and sun holding hands,
all illusions become mystical.
