Bio Note: Having grown up on the East Coast of the United States, I now live in Perugia, Italy,
where I work as a teacher of the English language. I have been writing poetry since 1998, and published my
first poems in Pivot - now defunct - in 2000. Since then my work has been published in Rattle, Poetry
Salzburg Review and other places. My favorite thing about writing poetry is the chain of unforseen discoveries
that happens during composition - like going to bed in one place and waking up in another - which never fails to
produce a sense of wonder in me.
To the Horned Moon
How often I meet you here above the trees and houses nested in sleep, the edges of you ringed, luminescent as a dropped nickel in a pool of crude oil. Copper-crowned night, twilit and electric blue, presiding above the world unchallenged. What star measures up to you? None I know of. They are too far. You, on the other hand, so close I could take you by the horns wrestle you to Earth or steer you forever at ten million miles per hour straight out of the universe.
