April 2018
I moved to Asheville, NC in 2015 after teaching at Georgia Southern University for 26 years. Asheville is a wonderful place to live and write and teach poetry workshops for The Great Smokies Writing Program. My most recent book is Some Wonder, published in 2015 by Gival Press.
EDITOR'S NOTE: In his submission letter, Eric said:
"Greetings, Firestone -- I'm submitting a single poem for the April poems about poetry issue. In February, David Graham and I had one of our periodic throwdowns, in which we write/exchange a poem each day of the month (doing it in February has one big advantage--fewer days to panic about finding something new to write). "Ars Glassware" was ripped from the mundane headlines of my life as I scrambled to clean the kitchen and write a poem simultaneously."
Ars Glassware
Grabbed an empty glass from the counter
To add to the dishwasher and the water
I hadn’t seen sloshed out
All over my hand and shirt.
That’s how I like my poetry—so clear
You don’t think there’s anything there.
And then it’s all over you, sinking in.
