I live with my wife and two daughters in Medford, MA where I have taught English in the public schools for the last 19 years (the first five were in grade 6, the last 14 in high school). I am a songwriter and I adapt poems from the public domain (Keats, Yeats, etc.). The music can be heard at www.maxheinegg.com. I have recent poems accepted in Tar River, Chiron Review, and Crab Creek. I am also the co-founder of Medford Brewing Company, working as the recipe designer for our craft beers.
Editor's Note: Ever since Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize for poetry I've looked at song lyrics in a different way. "Sedona" is a song by Max Heinegg. He wrote the words and the music. You can listen to it as you read the lyrics. But watch out! This song will grab you and won't let go. |

Sedona
Mesa, red stone on high Paint a portrait of light Fragment of the sky And the sun All I’ve wanted seems to lead me here Echoes of a vanished year Desire changes color Under tears of sun Over the rain We are Over the rain We saw, midday sun in the sky Dust roads, no cars in sight Red hills over red sky And the sun Over the rain We are Over the rain & Down from darkness we climb Mesa, in the back of our mind Fragment of the sky And the sun Over the rain We are Over the rain |
