I left my hometown of San Francisco, California, in 1978 for a long hitch-hiking trip around the Mediterranean, ending up in Messina, Sicily, where I still live. I teach English at the local university. My poetry has appeared in Frigg, Strong Verse, Ink Sweat & Tears and others. To relax, i play the banjo, follow baseball, take summer walks on the PCT and blog at www.emartinpedersen.com.
The writer writes a sad sad story
lost love; so sad the characters cry
and the writer enters the love story
and cries along with the sad characters,
then the man turns off the computer
he barely sees his reflection in the screen
eyes of despondency at lovesickness
and wonder at the tears on his cheeks,
while his father lies gasping and dying
in bed on the back side of the globe
and the two tears would fill the land between
if the writer were able to walk on water
would he consider crossing the salt sea
to see his sad reflection again.
