November 2016
I'm almost 70 and still working because I lived a reckless life beginning in the Sixties. I've lived all over the USA and done everything from stand-up and radio to factory work. I have a lovely sixteen year old daughter who I try to help along the way with my second ex who lives close by. My poetry has appeared online and in print.
Out in the Open
In an old rocking chair
rocking in slow winds
I wait, watching light
fade at the final horizon.
I hear the music
of children in a dream
started by the sound
of trees rustling in the
coming darkness.
I am there, running
without a care,
jumping, skipping,
shouting at friends
I’d soon never see
again. And I see
what I didn’t back
then: the black rain
pouring down,
the muddy river wild
and rising, getting
closer and closer.
