I wrote songs for about thirty years. Here's one from 1995. Aptly titled, I might add. (Audio file of me singing it right below this.)
November
-to my dear Susan-
November sun shining so brightly
As the leaves go from green to brown
It's getting dark out earlier nightly
Feel a chill coming over this town
Soon, my love, all too politely
Quietly — without a sound
Whirling and twirling so lightly
Snow will come a-swirling down down down
Snow will come a-swirling down
November wind wailing me a warning
Better get your old wool blanket out, my friend
You're gonna wake up shivering one morning
Gonna know summer's come to an end
Yes, I am getting older
It's time to stop fooling around
This feeling in my bones is a-growing colder
And the clock keeps a-winding down down down
And the clock just keeps a-winding down
There was a road — it was lined with maple trees
Where you and I went driving long ago
Can you still find it in your picture-book of memories
Is it somewhere you still care to go
Surely you do remember
I was the boy you found
And here it is — once again -- November
And the tears come a-rolling down down down
And the tears just come a-rolling down
November sun shining so brightly
Summer dreams — they die hard and slow
But it's getting dark out earlier nightly
Before long we'll be seeing snow
Bravely facing winter
The trees stand tall and proud
It's just people that split and splinter
As the leaves come a-dancing down down down
As the leaves come a-dancing down
Bravely facing winter
The trees stand tall and proud
It's just people that split and splinter
As the leaves come a-dancing down down down
As the leaves come a-dancing down
