I live in Istanbul as an asocial high school student in the boondocks. I write jazz, blues, and indie songs with my guitar and occasionally poetry. My previous work has been published in the first issue of firefly magazine, and can be found at http://fireflymagazine.weebly.com/issue-12.html.
Manic Man
Manic Man,
With your ups and your downs,
Beat your drum
With a smile and a frown.
Does he know how it feels
To have an arm around his waist?
Does he know the heat of
Red lipstick and its taste?
Manic Man,
With your smooth tunnel ears,
Learn how to laugh
With your eyes full of tears.
He will not be drugged,
Shut down, or sedated.
He will not be buried
Under love, under hatred.
Manic Man,
With your tumultuous mind,
Wipe away your frown,
Leave your face outlined.
Will you sink? Will you drown?
Or will you burst out in flames?
Scream, Manic Man,
The world’s silent shame!
Feast with both God and the Devil!
Invite Charon to dance!
Erupt in heavenly song
At hell’s welcoming glance!
Beat your drum
As the critiques lose their color,
Beat your drum,
As you’re ignored near and far,
Beat your drum,
As Atlas begins to falter, and
Beat your drum
Like the manic man you are.
And when all is dead or dying,
And when all is black or blue,
Beat your drums, Manic man,
The way the world has beaten you.
