March 2016
E D I T O R ' S N O T E
Dear Vee-Vees and friends,
Our optional theme for March was RETURN; thus you will find many fine poems about return in this issue of Verse-Virtual. Our optional theme for April (Nat'l Poetry Month) is POETRY. If you are planning to submit poems for the April issue please send them to me during the first two weeks in March.
Our Facebook group page (www.facebook.com/groups/versevirtual) is quite a success. Thanks to the many who visit and participate in it. And while we're on the subject of Facebook let me just say a few sentences to those of us who are less-than-enthusiastic about it. Truth is, I was an official anti-Facebook curmudgeon until last year, when I finally gave it an honest chance. Now I understand if you have principles and don't want to be part of social media. But, believe it or not, FB has enriched my internet experience — and — even my life. Dig it.
In this issue is a special treat. The appropriate adage is the apple one. In this case the tree is the father and the apple that didn't fall far from it is his daughter, respectively: William A. Greenfield and Sonia Greenfield. Yep. That's right. Both are poets and both of are contributors to this issue of V-V. Cool huh?
Spring To what purpose, April, do you return again? Beauty is not enough. You can no longer quiet me with the redness Of little leaves opening stickily. I know what I know. The sun is hot on my neck as I observe The spikes of the crocus. The smell of the earth is good. It is apparent that there is no death. But what does that signify? Not only under ground are the brains of men Eaten by maggots. Life in itself Is nothing, An empty cup, a flight of uncarpeted stairs. It is not enough that yearly, down this hill, April Comes like an idiot, babbling and strewing flowers. -Edna St. Vincent Millay |
That's it for now. Thanks for reading and writing.
Sincerely yours,
Firestone
