Family is very important to me. In fact, my chapbook Hello, it's Your Mother (Finishing Line Press, October 2015) is about my sometimes tumultuous relationship with my mother and how I came to terms with this as I cared for her while she was dying. I learned an important lesson: we all do the best we can. Live your life, live and let live. Please visit me at http://lauriekolp.com.
Outside the Holy Fortress
I stopped and sat awhile
a weed, I sprouted fear,
wrestled voices wrangled
between my vacant ears.
Had I lost my mind to think
the wailing would absolve
a wanting of humility
that through the years evolved?
I dropped down on my knees
crying out to you,
willing to surrender
my wayward twisted view.
A warmth I felt enwrap me,
an infant swaddled once again
with boundless love, my blanket
your holy fortress led me in.
I stopped and sat awhile

wrestled voices wrangled
between my vacant ears.
Had I lost my mind to think
the wailing would absolve
a wanting of humility

with boundless love, my blanket
your holy fortress led me in.
