I live with my two children and work in a corporate marketing department near Green Bay, Wisconsin. My educational and professional backgrounds are in visual art, graphic design, and print production. My hiking shoes and camera get much use — often simultaneously. My poems have appeared in several journals, and I received a 2015 Pushcart nomination from Star*Line. www.bobbie-lovell.com
At the summit
you find it was really
about the climb —
the trophy scrapes and bruises,
the tale of near disaster.
Nonetheless, you savor the view:
galaxies of pinpoint trees,
the sugar cube city,
silver veins of river.
Across the valley,
a grander peak gleams.
You nod your respects,
make a vow to return.
You know there will always be
another time, a greater height.
You know you were born
to die climbing —
not mountains, exactly.
They’re just metaphors.
