I am a poet, musician, and nurse practitioner. When I am not writing, composing, or diagnosing, I love paddling out on my kayak, exploring and photographing the waterways near my home in California. My first book of poetry and original photography a clear day in october was published in June, 2016, by E&GJ Press.
Author’s Note: Firestone Feinberg’s watercolor “still life” is a visual delight, and a response poem seemed very appropriate. Being familiar with the Genesis account of Adam, Eve, and their garden paradise, this “other point of view” was really fun to write.

"still life" by Firestone Feinberg
still life
eve, my dearest
you go east, while i go west
we'll meet back here at evensong
bring all you can pluck and carry
i want to see if They really meant
"of every tree thou mayest freely eat"
i see so much fruit, ripe and ready
we'll never be hungry, never grow fat
tomorrow we'll do north and south
my mouth is already watering
for things i can't yet name
adam, my handsome man
look at the rising moon
signaling the end of today's gathering
we've just enough time
to sample one of everything
that's in this bowl of plenty
where every fruit is super sweet
this one most of all
i know They said just look, don't touch
but it was too much to resist
here, have the rest
let that juice run around your tongue
done is done and now, we run
for the last tree while there's
still life
